The Shaman

The Shaman is the only specialist among the Mushau Innus. He has the ability to get in contact with the spirits, visit the world of the spirits and localize animals. The Shaman can also heal people and retrieve lost objects.
    When the Shaman tries to get in contact with the spirits, he sits alone in a small tent placed within a bigger tent crowded with people. As the Shaman drums and sings, the inner tent shakes more and more, and the crowd can hear the voices of the spirits.
    The Shaman had the power to kill people and Shamans from other groups. This gave the Mushuau Innu a feeling of strength and power. People today claim that their strength and power is weak due to the missionary attempts to break the Shaman, their religion, and rituals.
